After Haarlem and Amstelveen, online super merket Picnic is now also expanding to Purmerend, Edam, Volendam and Monnickendam. From mid-August about 55,000 households can have their groceries delivered there.
Picnic chose to grow its presence in the North Holland region because of the many households with children there. In all the four areas, around 40 percent of households have children, while the average in the Netherlands is 33 percent. The expectation is that they would like to have the supermarket shopping delivered to the door.
The expansion to the Zaanstreek-Waterland region is part of the nationwide roll-out of Picnic, which delivers to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Ede, Veenendaal and Venlo, among others.
The number of customers rose to more than 400,000 in 2019, spread over 100 Dutch places.
