Both young people and the middle aged people (25-44 years) are increasingly dropping Facebook.
Only 23 percent of Dutch youth say they use Facebook. And only 3 percent of the young people rank Facebook in the social media top 3. In the middle aged group of people, Facebook is now in fourth place, after WhatsApp, Instagram and YouTube. These are the results of the Soda Social Media Monitor 2020.
This year’s study looked at the influence of the Coronavirus on social media use. Especially TikTok was used more during the crisis. Almost 50 percent of the respondents between 25 and 44 years old say they use TikTok more often after the outbreak. With a usage of 43 percent TikTok is the sixth most used social media channel among young people.
Young people (up to 25 years old) say that they use WhatsApp (99 percent), Instagram (98 percent) and YouTube (93 percent) most often.
In the oldest group studied (older than 45), WhatsApp is number is the most used social medium (used by 80 percent). Facebook (62 percent) and Messenger (45 percent) follow suitably. Only 34 percent say they use the widely popular Instagram. Snapchat and TikTok are hardly used by this group.
